Sunday Arts Hour presents Trio Caprice at Landis House, 67 N. Fourth Street, Newport, as part of PCCA’s free concert series.
Trio Caprice will present Beethoven Trio Op, 70. No1 “Ghost” along with Turina Piano Trio No. 2 in B minor, Op. 76. This particular Beethoven trio is one of the most famous of the genre and is so nick-named due to a rather eerie and unusual scoring of the slow second movement. The 1st and 3rd movements are both energetic; a lively Allegro and a sparkling Presto Finale. Turina’s second Piano Trio is a delightful juxtaposition of classical and romantic trio traditions and the color and relaxed form of more recent French and Spanish composers.
Trio Caprice was formed by Debra Ronning, Sara Male, and Stephanie McCullough in 2010. The group “discovered” one another as colleagues and friends in the Elizabethtown College’s Fine and Performing Arts Department. Together they enjoy performing the masterpieces of their repertoire. They perform the standard trio repertoire but also have an interest in commissioning and performing more contemporary works. Members of the trio each enjoy active performing careers as collaborative and solo artists. They also maintain busy teaching schedules. As soloists, teachers, and as an ensemble the three share a musical vision of playing with expressive intensity and creating beautiful sounds.
Sunday Arts Hour concerts are free and open to the public and are followed by a reception with light refreshments and a chance to meet the performers.
